Amanda Mason
2nd Dan

I joined the Yoseikan Karate Association in 1999, aged 12. I have since learnt a vast number of techniques, ranging from blocks and counter-attacks to locks and restraints. During my time, I had the privilege of meeting the founder of the British karate movement, Vernon Bell. In 2005, I underwent a vigorous five hour grading to achieve my first dan black belt. Subsequent to this, I left for University where I explored a number of disciplines, including martial arts and dance. Since graduating, I have resumed my training under Shihan Clarry, returning to the Yoseikan system. A continuing interest of mine is the art of fighting an imagery opponent; kata. As Shihan Clarry states, 'it is our dictionary of knowledge'. I find it a considerably important and challenging part of karate, interpreting each individual move and developing a unique style of performance. Amanda is also currently a specified instructor on Shihan's teaching team.
