Chris Mason
2nd Dan

I began my training in Yoseikan karate back in 1998, aged 15, under Shihan Clarry. Three years later, as a 3rd kyu brown belt I moved to Southampton where I had a place at the University. For the next three years my training in Yoseikan was mostly restricted to self-training, supplemented by visits back to the dojo in the holidays. I also began training in chinese martial arts around this time. After graduating from the University I decided to return to my roots, and moved back to Essex where I resumed my training in Yoseikan karate. I passed the 1st dan black belt (shodan) test in January 2006 and currently hold the rank of 2nd dan black belt (Nidan). During the course of my training I have had the opportunity to attend seminars run by Shihan Mike Newton 7th Dan and Shihan Vernon Bell 10th Dan. Throughout my journey in karate I have been particularly interested in absorbing the vast and complicated number of katas our Yoseikan system possess, and understanding the application of these ( bunkia). I also have a particular interested in the bo (staff) fighting forms.
