Chief Instructor Y.K.A. / U.K. Chris Clarry Shihan 8th Dan

Chris Clarry began his training in the Yoseikan system under Vernon C. F. Bell way back in 1968, he was just eight years old at the time and so was accompanied by his father Ted Clarry, both originally studied at Sensei Bell's Upminster Dojo situated in Essex.

Chris remember's little of the upheaval caused by the British Karate Federation disbanding around that time, other than the occasional comings and goings of various resident instructors to the Dojo, these were troubled times for Vernon Bell but Ted and Chris stood by him when most had left.., one good thing to come from the resident instructors leaving was that Vernon rewarded the loyal few with personal tuition.

By 1978, Chris had achieved his Shodan in the Yoseikan  system under Vernon Bell, whilst also over that 10 year period obtaining various other Budo Grades in Judo, Jujitsu, Aikido and Bojitsu.  Over the coming years both Chris and Ted Clarry earned the position's of senior instructors at the newly relocated Upminster Dojo.

During the 1970's Chris also had the opportunity to train under some of the finest Martial Artists of that time these included: Master Masafumi Suzuki 10th Dan of the Nippon Seibukan Bujutsu Organisation in Japan and Grand Master Chow Choo Soot of the Karate Budokan International based in Malaysia to name but a few, many friendships were made in those early days, one such friendship was with the Chief Instructor of the Karate Budokan Association in the U.K, Sensei Mike Newton 7th Dan, himself a former Yoseikan practitioner from the early days.

In the 1980's Chris continued to pursue his interests in the Budo Arts by travelling to the Far East to study, even taking out some time in Thailand to study Muay Thai and all was going according to plan but, In 1994 Chris was diagnosed with a rare form of abdominal Cancer and was forced to undergo major surgery to survive.

Later having made a full recovery, he returned back to training with even more determination to pass on his knowledge than before,  it was then that he decided to make the plan's to become a full time instructor and hopefully take over from Vernon Bell some time in the future.

Many years later having obtained from Japan official Gaku's for his title and grade's, Chris turned his attention to becoming a full time professional Martial Arts instructor and formed the Yoseikan Karate Association U.K. with the assistance of Vernon C. F. Bell his first Martial Arts teacher, it was decided that so as to avoid the same fate Vernon had suffered in the collapes of the BKF in the 1960's, a new look Yoseikan Karate Kyokai would be formulated and the association would be reformed and legally Trade Marked by Shihan Chris Clarry.

In  2001 Sensei Vernon C. F. Bell presented Chris with official documentation entrusting him with the duty of continuing the original Yoseikan linage,  originally bestowed to Vernon Bell by the late Master Minoru Mochizuki, Via Henri Plee founder of the French Karate Federation.

Now Currently with over 41 years Martial Arts training behind him, Shihan Chris Clarry   continues to this day to promote the name Vernon C. F. Bell and of YOSEIKAN KARATE , actively teaching the many students and Black Belt members of his association, he is now the legal owner of the YKA trade mark.
