The Origins Of Yoseikan

Yoseikan was the name given to a Dojo in the Shizuoka province of Japan. This Dojo was the birth place of the system of Yoseikan founded by Master Minoru Mochizuki originally in the 1930's. Master Mochizuki originally studied under Masters Jigoro Kano and Morihei Ueshiba.

The Old Yoseikan style included Jujitsu, Aikijujitsu, Karate and Kobudo, Techniques included were, Foot Throws (Ashi Waza) standing throws (Nage Waza) and ground Work (Ne Waza) Punches, kicking and blocking (Kihon Te Geri and Uke waza) Escapes (te hodoki) Joint locks (kansetsu waza) and exclusive sacrifice techniques (sutemi waza) as well as various sword, stick and knife techniques.

In his lifetime Master Mochizuki acquired a total of 48 Dan Martial Arts Rankings. Master Minoru Mochizuki died aged 96 years in France on the 30th May 2003, handing down the title of Master to his eldest son Hiroo.

Nowadays few practioners of the old style are found as most went into the style of Yoseikan Budo created by the great Master Hiroo Mochizuki in the 70s. The new style incorporates both traditional & modern budo Blending Wado Ryu style karate and kick-boxing, whilst emphasising sports & competition.
