What is Yoseikan Karate Yoseikan Karate ~ is a unique blend of the Traditional Japanese Martial Arts It combines techniques of throwing the opponent as with Judo, locking and restraining the opponent as with Jujitsu. Controlling and neutralizing the opponent as with Aikido and striking the opponent with techniques as used in Karate employing the hands and feet as natural weapons.
Traditional Yoseikan Karate remains true to its original Budo form, avoiding sporting competition and training in the old traditional forms. Training purely as a combative art - not sport, its aim is not only to prepare the student to deal with all types of aggressive physical assault, but also to help develop and polish the human character.
Unlike the Yoseikan Karate as first Introduced & practiced by the students of the late Vernon C. F. Bell in the 1950's & early 1960's our system has very much evolved since our reforming in 2001. With a comprehensive grading syllabus which now includes training in the basic Nage Waza (throwing techniques) Aikijutsu Projection & Neutralization techniques combined with a comprehensive study into Atemi Jitsu ( Vital Points ) Sutemi waza ( sacrifice Techniques ) Shime, Kansetsu waza & Grappling techniqes, plus Bojitsu, Tonfa, Sai & Nunchuku kata to name but a few.
With Karate as our Foundation Art, our Karate syllabus requires a total of 25 Kata's before a senior grade student may attempt to aquire a Shodan Black Belt within our system with a further 14 more karate kata included to each of the consecitive Dan Ranks which also include various weapon kata with further study into the principles of Aikijutsu including Osaekomi ( Pins ) Nage ( Throws ) Shime (Chokes ) & Sutemi ( sacrifice techniques ) & thus our syllabus continues.
